At the peak of Stone Temple Pilots' success in the early to mids, Weiland displayed a deep, baritone vocal style that was initially closely compared to that of Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder. The band's third album, Tiny Music Songs from the Vatican Gift Shophad Weiland singing in a much higher, raspier tone to complement the band's more 60's rock -influenced sound on that album. We are angry and sad about this loss, but we are most devastated that he chose to give up. Let's choose to make this the first time we don't glorify this tragedy with talk of rock and roll and the demons that, by the way, don't have to come with it. And like Bowie can and does, it was Scott's Magnificent Bastard that pushed his music into a unique, and hard to pin down, aesthetic sonicsphere.

And that is if you asked me who I truly believed were the great voices of our generation, I'd say it were he, Layneand Kurt. Tour by covering the Velvet Revolver hit song " Slither ". Archived from the original on February 9, Retrieved February 10, I found this book very easy to read, although somewhat lacking. Most of the stories end somewhat ambiguously and left me wondering what happened next.

I'm loathe to compare it with Things Snowball because I haven't read that recently enough to do any comparison justice - however, I don't recall the same sense o This is a collection of short stories some much shorter than others by American comedian Rich Hall.

I'm loathe to compare it with Things Snowball because I haven't read that recently enough to do any comparison justice - however, I don't recall the same sense of disappointment of stories that were a little bit too short, and I'm pretty sure the joke quota was up higher too although Rich's dead-pan delivery comes through well in Magnificent Bastards, so it's easy to read a line and not have the absurdity sink in until further down the page.

An enjoyable light read, but could have been better. Mar 25, Laurence Copeland rated it really liked it. I would never have dreamt of buying this book, but having found it lying around our house, I read it and rather enjoyed it.

Rich Hall, it turns out, is funny in print as well as in Magnificent Bastard. But he also has a sharp eye when it comes to observing ordinary people, especially what he himself calls "trailer trash" in the American West. He tells poignant but unsentimental, sometimes surreal tales economically and convincingly. Feb 23, Eric Londgren rated it really liked it. I loved this book. I stumbled across it by accident, and only picked it up because I recognized the writer as the creator of Sniglets, as well as being a very funny comedian and a one-time Saturday Night Live cast member.

But this book is dark, very dark. David Sedaris-after-a-bad-day dark. Definitely worth reading. Feb 04, Kathryn rated it liked it.

I found this by chance at the library - it's a mixed bag of short stories that range from the absurd to darkly funny. The highlights for me included a piece on a girl's MySpace popularity and a woman trying to save her hotel. Some of the longer stories proved a bit tedious. I was a bit disappointed with this book. I Think Rich Hall is a very funny stand up comedian, but the book didnt really do it for me.

Oct 30, Jason Ruggles rated it it was ok. Never judge a book by it's cover. In the case of this book, the cover was too good. Groundhogs dancing? That's hilarios! What was promised, based on the back cover description, was quirky and humorous.

What was delivered fell short. It was well written, but lacked soul. May 03, R Davies rated it liked it. In all you can hear Rich Hall's distinctive voice coming through loudly, and there are some very funny turns of phrases.

Not all of them worked for me, but it was nice, occasionally acerbic, light relief. Found this in a charity shop. It was great value for money. Imaginative short stories that are quirky and funny some of them laugh out loud funny but not LOL. Its a good collection of stories and its very easy to read. Aug 31, Alan Fricker rated it liked it. Some neat little stories but Magnificent Bastard touch of filler. Nov 01, Roxanne rated it liked it. The rest were meh. May 16, Magnificent Bastard added it Shelves: not-finished.

Although I am a fan of Rich Hall, this book was not for me so didn't finish it. Mar 11, Cstrand rated it liked it Shelves: humor. A set of really quirky short stories - some excellent, some that I just didn't connect with. Dec 07, Steve rated it really liked it. A collection of short stories that run the gamut to mildly amusing to very funny. A very fast read. Jun 17, Richard Anthony Bennett rated it it was ok. Not as good as 'Things snowball' Very Hard to get into and not as funny.

Sep 14, Pat rated it did not like it. This book was supposed to be funny. I gave it one star only because, at pages, it only wasted 2 days of my discretionary reading time.

So far it's much better than the cover and the book quotes made me think it'd be. This book needs much better marketing people.

Feb 13, Michelle rated it it was amazing. Interesting characters! Pei Yen rated it liked it Mar 23, Louise Lucas rated it it was amazing Aug 18, James rated it really liked it Jul 25, Soup rated it did not like it Dec 12, Azi rated it liked it Jul 01, Tina Donnelly rated it it was ok Jan 02, Simon Mortimore rated it really liked it Mar 11, Kowgirl Jenkins rated it it was amazing Sep 19,
